What To Expect …

Here's some of what to expect at your first chiropractic visit:

Step 1:  Patient Background
During your first visit you will provide information about your symptoms and condition. You will be asked questions such as:

  • Is it a result of an injury?
  • When did the pain begin?
  • Where is it located?
  • What activities increase or decrease the pain?

Step 2:  Chiropractic Examination
A chiropractic examination includes a thorough muscular and skeletal exam, as well as, specific orthopedic and neurological tests to assess:

  • Range of motion of the affected part
  • Muscle tone and strength
  • Neurological function

Depending on your individual needs, further chiropractic tests may be necessary to assess the affected area, (such as having the individual move in a specific manner, posture analysis, or chiropractic manipulation of the affected body part).

Step 3:  Diagnostic Evaluation
Based upon your condition and the results of the history and chiropractic examination, diagnostic studies may be helpful in identifying causes of pain and identifying abnormalities that can be used to more accurately diagnose a condition. Diagnostic studies are not always necessary. The most common diagnostic tests are X-rays.

Step 4: Diagnosis and Treatment
Based upon the results of your consultation, examination, and evaluation, your Doctor will recommend a treatment plan tailored to your specific injury or condition. Treatment may include chiropractic manipulation, patient education, physiotherapy, and/or strengthening therapy.
